Network Security Awareness System ™

Digital Defense’s flagship service delivery platform is the Network Security Awareness System (NSAS™). The NSAS platform enables Digital Defense to leverage the capabilities of highly skilled network security analysts to serve clients around the globe. Digital Defense uses a combination of automated and analyst-assisted services to help clients secure their business operation. The automated services and the results of the analyst-assisted services are provided through NSAS. NSAS is the core platform used to store and process assessment information. All information transmitted to and from our Secure Network Operations Center (SNOC) is protected by employing multiple encrypted technologies.

The NSAS system has been architected in accordance with emerging Service Oriented Architecture models (SOA). At the heart of the NSAS architecture lays a set of security services which are accessed over a web services HTTP communication interface. The service request messages are XML based. Although an end user accesses the services via web pages as presented by the Frontline portal, internally the NSAS Web Server sends service requests to the Business Logic Server. The NSAS Business Logic Server acts as an application server that offers security services to requesting clients. The architecture supports an event registration mechanism that allows other NSAS machines within the Digital Defense SNOC to register for a large set of security events. Once registered, events such as new vulnerability findings, newly discovered hosts and more are sent to the registered client over SOA message mechanism.

Assessment results and other information required to process service requests from the NSAS Business Logic Server are stored in the NSAS database. Digital Defense uses Oracle® as the database technology of choice.
